Since 1977, the Health District’s Safe Drinking Water Program (SDWP), has operated under a Cooperative Agreement with our State’s Safe Drinking Water office to directly oversee a majority of Clark County’s public water systems.

Since 1974, a public water system has been formally defined as a system that provides water for human consumption through pipes or other constructed conveyances to at least 15 service connections or serves an average of at least 25 people for at least 60 days a year. A public water system may be publicly or privately owned. Today, those systems include municipal water systems, community water systems, rest stops, campgrounds, parks and various commercial complexes. Our efforts involve, but are not limited to:

• Conducting sanitary surveys of water systems.
• Conducting site visits to assess conditions that can attribute to total coliform positive sampling events.
• Reviewing sampling plans.
• Educating operators of water systems.
• Managing lab results for compliance with to NAC 445A.454 and 445A.455.
