Southern Nevada Health District Hepatitis a Clinic Update

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
September 27, 2005

Eds. The health district vaccinated 109 people on Monday, Sept. 26, up from the 101 people noted in our Sept. 26 press release. The total number of people vaccinated has been adjusted accordingly.

LAS VEGAS – Sept. 27, 2005 – The Southern Nevada Health District provided hepatitis A vaccinations and immune globulin to 82 people at its special hepatitis A clinic today. In the past four days, a total of 363 people have received the preventive treatment.

Only those who were served ice cream at the Schwan’s Food Service booth at the Global Gaming Expo on Sept. 13 or 14 are at risk for exposure. The individual serving the product is considered the source of the exposure, not the ice cream product itself.

The hepatitis A clinic will be open again tomorrow from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. at the Ravenholt Public Health Center at 625 Shadow Lane. Since the preventative treatment is only effective if given within two weeks of exposure, tomorrow is the last day at-risk people may receive the vaccination.

For more information on hepatitis A, or the circumstances of exposure at this conference, the public may call (702) 759-1300, and select option #5.
