Opportunity Village Clients Staff to Receive H1N1 Vaccine on Thursday

LAS VEGAS – Nov. 9, 2009 – The Southern Nevada Health District (SNHD) is encouraging those in priority groups to receive the H1N1 vaccine, which is safe and effective in preventing the H1N1 flu virus. To demonstrate that safety, necessity and availability of the vaccine, the clients and staff of Opportunity Village are going to receive their vaccinations on Thursday, Nov. 12.

Many of the clients served by Opportunity Village have underlying medical conditions that put them at risk for developing complications if they contract the H1N1 flu virus. The clients recognize the necessity of receiving the vaccination and are eager to do so. Additionally, the staff at Opportunity Village is aware that if they contract the H1N1 flu virus, they could infect others, so they are also eager to receive the H1N1 flu vaccine.

Who: More than 350 clients and staff from Opportunity Village

What: H1N1 vaccinations provided to clients and staff of Opportunity Village

When: Thursday, Nov. 12, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Where: Opportunity Village’s Englestad Campus, 6050 S. Buffalo Drive (215 & Buffalo)

Directions – Take Rainbow to Patrick and head west (Buffalo is not completed). Take Patrick to Buffalo – Opportunity Village is on the northeast corner. The Kitty Rodman Multi-purpose Center is the northernmost building.

Priority groups for the H1N1 flu vaccine include pregnant women, healthy people between the ages of 2 and 49 that live with or care for children younger than 6 months of age, people with underlying medical conditions or over the age of 49 who live with or care for children younger than 6 months of age, children between the ages of 2 and 18 with underlying medical conditions, healthy people between the ages of 2 and 24, health care and emergency medical services providers with direct patient contact, and people between the ages of 25 and 64 who have underlying medical conditions.
