Immunization data for Clark County originates from the State of Nevada Department of Health and Human Services. Data is preliminary and subject to change.
Southern Nevada Health District Announces First Flu-Related Death
B2021-01-11T12:00:59-08:00The first flu-related death of the season has been reported in a woman who was over the age of 65. Influenza activity has remained low in Clark County compared to past seasons, but this death serves as a reminder that the flu is a serious disease and is still circulating in the community. As of January 2, 10 people in Clark County have been hospitalized with confirmed cases of the flu.
Southern Nevada Health District – COVID-19 Update
B2021-01-13T11:48:36-08:00Today, the Southern Nevada Health District is reporting 194,220 cases of COVID-19 in Clark County, an increase of 737 since yesterday. Today’s increased case total is a result of delayed laboratory reporting. The Health District is also reporting an additional 42 deaths, bringing the total to 2,716. B2021-01-17T10:46:24-08:00LAS VEGAS – The Southern Nevada Health District is reporting a sobering milestone in the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Today, 1,337 new cases of COVID-19 are being reported, bringing the total in Clark County to 200,597. The Health District is also reporting 14 new COVID-19 deaths, bringing the total to 2,866.

B2021-01-21T10:25:26-08:00Clark County, the Southern Nevada Health District, local cities, the Nevada National Guard, UNLV and other community partners are rapidly expanding efforts to offer COVID-19 vaccinations to prioritized populations of the public based on available vaccine supplies and U.S. Center for Disease Control recommendations and updated state guidelines. Health care and public safety workers continue to be prioritized at local vaccination sites. Clinic appointments are now available for people age 70 and older. Currently, a limited number of appointments are available on the Health District’s website. More dates and times are being added to the calendar to book a limited number of appointment time slots.
Southern Nevada Health District launches Linkage to Action (L2A) mobile outreach unit

L2A is funded through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) Overdose Data to Action* program to prevent drug overdoses through education, surveillance, and assistance with accessing services to prevent overdoses. New COVID-19 strain B.1.1.7 detected in Clark County
B2021-01-25T15:58:52-08:00The first known case of the new B.1.1.7 coronavirus strain in Nevada has been detected in a sample that was initially tested in the Southern Nevada Public Health Laboratory (SNPHL). The specimen was collected during routine community collection activities and tested by the SNPHL to determine if it was positive for the virus that causes COVID-19. During testing, it was discovered the specimen was showing characteristics of the variant. It was then sent the Nevada State Public Health Laboratory for sequencing and confirmation.
Southern Nevada Health District begins offering appointments for second dose of COVID-19 vaccine
B2021-01-25T17:13:34-08:00LAS VEGAS – Starting this week, the Southern Nevada Health District will begin contacting people who are eligible to receive their second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine and were vaccinated at a Health District clinic to begin scheduling appointments. Second dose allocations are received based on the amount of first doses administered, and appointments will only be available for residents who received their vaccinations from a Health District clinic.

The appointment-only clinic will open on Tuesday, February 2, for people who received their first dose at a Health District clinic and are eligible to receive their second dose.

B2021-01-27T17:04:39-08:00Clark County and Southern Nevada Health District officials announced that next week’s schedule of operations at the Cashman Center COVID-19 vaccination site in downtown Las Vegas will be Wednesday, Feb. 3 through Sunday, Feb. 7. The site, located in Exhibit Hall B of Cashman Center, 850 N. Las Vegas Blvd., is operating 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Saturday this week. Appointment-only, first-dose COVID-19 vaccinations are being offered based on available supplies to people age 70 and older, and other individuals currently eligible to receive the vaccine in the health care workforce, public safety and security, and frontline community support groups. Appointments can be booked online via the vaccine distribution page of the Health District’s website at www.SNHD.info/covid. COVID-19 vaccine clinics operated by Clark County and the Health District offer the vaccine on an appointment-only basis to ensure everyone who comes to a clinic receives the vaccine.

Southern Nevada Health District second dose COVID-19 vaccination clinic opens at Las Vegas Convention Center today

The site is operated in partnership with the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, Clark County, the Nevada Department of Health and Human Services, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response, FEMA, and other local response partners.
Additional cases of the B.1.1.7 coronavirus strain linked to the original case
B2021-02-02T17:24:39-08:00Five additional cases of the new B.1.1.7 coronavirus strain have been detected in Clark County. These five cases are all close contacts of the first case that was announced on January 25, 2020. These specimens were collected by Southern Nevada Public Health Laboratory (SNPHL) and sent to the Nevada State Public Health Laboratory for sequencing and confirmation.
Southern Nevada Health District, Southern Nevada HIV Awareness Consortium, TIM Clinic to provide free Collect2Protect at-home HIV test kits, Feb. 5
B2021-02-03T09:20:26-08:00The Southern Nevada Health District and its partners, the Southern Nevada HIV Awareness Consortium and the Therapeutic Integrated Medical Care (TIM) Clinic will provide free at-home HIV test kits in observance of National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day (NBHAAD). Free kits, part of the Health District’s Collect2Protect program, will be distributed from 10 a.m.–2 p.m., Friday, Feb. 5 at Nucleus Plaza, 916 W. Owens Ave., Ste D, Las Vegas, NV 89106. To date, the Health District has received 116,865 doses of COVID-19 vaccine for distribution in Clark County. Appointments are available three days in advance, depending on vaccine availability. People who work at a large organization should also check with their organization for their vaccination plans.

Cory Burgess2021-02-04T13:44:31-08:00The Southern Nevada Health District has notified people who made first dose appointments at the Las Vegas Convention Center Second Dose Clinic that their appointments have been canceled. As a result, they will be able to provide vaccine to second dose walk-in patients for the next four weeks. Walk-in patients who are eligible this week received their first dose of Moderna vaccine between January 4-9, 2021. Patients will be served based on vaccine availability.

B2021-02-09T12:12:22-08:00The Southern Nevada Health District is continuing to serve walk-in patients who are eligible to receive their second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine at the Las Vegas Convention Center Second Dose Clinic. Walk-in appointments are available 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. or based on clinic capacity. Those eligible to receive their second dose at this site include patients who received their first dose of Moderna vaccine at a Health District or partner clinic no sooner than 28 days prior as well as those who received their first dose of Pfizer at a Health District or partner clinic no sooner than 21 days prior. Cory Burgess2021-02-10T17:10:35-08:00As of February 9, 2021, there have been 243,897 COVID-19 vaccines administered in Clark County. (203,477 first doses and 40,420 second doses.) The vaccine is being distributed in phases, according to the recommendations of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The Health District’s distribution plan mirrors the Nevada Division of Public and Behavioral Health’s COVID-19 Vaccination Playbook and is based on risk and level of exposure. To date, the Health District has received 151,665 doses of COVID-19 vaccine for distribution in Clark County.
Southern Nevada Health District reports an additional case of the B.1.1.7 variant reported in Clark County

This case is a male in his 30s and a visitor to Clark County. The individual has been isolating and was not hospitalized. This case has not been linked to the previously reported cases.

Second doses of the vaccine will be available to people by appointment only. The helpline is now available seven days a week, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and a new phone line provides more access for people seeking assistance with appointments and information. As a result, the Health District will be rescheduling second dose appointments for those who were scheduled to receive their second dose of the Moderna vaccine by one week. People who were scheduled to receive their second dose of Moderna on Thursday, February 18, Friday, February, 19, and Saturday, February 20, are being contacted to reschedule their appointments.

Based on its current inventory of both first and second doses of the vaccine, the Health District will be opening up limited first dose appointments at Cashman Center for those who are currently eligible to receive the vaccine. The Cashman Center site will be open this week on Wednesday, February 24 through Saturday, February 27. The Southern Nevada Health District is urging people that are eligible, which includes everyone in these groups that is 18 years of age and older (Moderna vaccine) or 16 years of age and older (Pfizer vaccine), to register for an appointment to get the vaccine.

In addition to individuals who are currently employed, people in these groups who were furloughed or laid off and are re-entering the workforce or seeking employment are eligible to be vaccinated. People should bring documentation of their current or previous employment.

Testing will occur in Lot H which is located off Dean Martin Drive via Gate 10. Each person getting tested can be pre-registered at www.snhd.info/get-tested/allegiant.
The UNLV/Stan Fulton testing site closed Easter Sunday, April 4

Testing resumes at 8 a.m. Monday, April 5. Testing is available at this site seven days per week from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. Appointments for testing are recommended and can be scheduled through University Medical Center’s website, www.umcsn.com. People who have no internet access can call UMC at (702) 789-5160 to schedule a testing appointment.

Beginning April 5, all Nevadans age 16 and older will be eligible to receive the vaccine. This has been a tremendous undertaking, and it is due to the hard work of Health District staff, partners and the public’s own commitment to their health and the health of the community that so many are already fully vaccinated.

One Million Dose Milestone Reached in Clark County

As of April 5, the Southern Nevada Health District, Clark County, University Medical Center, the Nevada National Guard, the local cities, EMS providers, pharmacies and other community partners have initiated 663,905 doses of the vaccine, completed 362,208 doses, and administered a total of 1,026,113 COVID-19 vaccines.

B2021-04-09T16:04:34-07:00Beginning Tuesday, April 13, extended-hour COVID-19 vaccine appointments will be available at the Las Vegas Convention Center site. The Convention Center site has additional capacity and will allow for more extended-hour appointments to be offered. Five hundred appointments will be available between the hours of 4 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. at the site, Tuesday through Friday. This week, 300 extended-hour appointments were offered at the Southern Nevada Health District’s Decatur location, Wednesday through Friday.

COVID-19 Brazilian (P.1) variant detected Clark County

The Southern Nevada Health District received notification about one case from the Nevada State Public Health Laboratory (NSPHL) and information about two cases were forwarded from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
Southern Nevada Health District Statement on Janssen (Johnson & Johnson) COVID-19 Vaccine
Cory Burgess2021-04-13T09:08:27-07:00Today the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and FDA recommended a pause in the use of the Janssen (Johnson & Johnson) vaccine while they review six reports of cases of a rare type of blood clot that occurred in individuals who received the vaccine. In keeping with the recommendations of the CDC and FDA, the Southern Nevada Health District has stopped administering the vaccine in its clinics and advised its community partners to do the same.

Cory Burgess2021-04-16T08:02:06-07:00As of April 15, 2021, there have been 786,066 COVID-19 doses initiated, 504,475 doses completed, and a total of 1,239,701 COVID-19 vaccines administered in Clark County. This Tuesday, April 13, a record number of vaccines were administered at both the Las Vegas Convention Center and Cashman Center clinics. More than 7,700 vaccines were given at Cashman Center, and more than 6,000 at the Convention Center location. New Drive-Through COVID-19 Vaccine Site to Open at Texas Station

B.1.617.2 variant detected in Clark County

The B.1.617.2 variant was first identified in India and is considered a variant of concern. The variant was detected locally in a sample tested by the Southern Nevada Public Health Laboratory. The public health laboratory conducts sequencing as part of ongoing surveillance efforts to detect variants that may be circulating in Clark County.

Cory Burgess2021-05-12T21:44:12-07:00On Monday, May 10, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration expanded the Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) for Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine to include adolescents 12-15 years of age. Today, the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) met to make final recommendations for the use of the vaccine for adolescents in this age group. Based on the final recommendations of the ACIP, the Southern Nevada Health District will begin administering Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine to children ages 12 and older at Health District sites. The case counts reported are only one measure of how the community is doing. The COVID-19 positivity test rate is declining, and these trends will be monitored as the community prepares to return to pre-pandemic occupancy guidelines on June 1.

The patient who died was a woman in her 60s with underlying medical conditions and is one of the five new probable cases reported. This brings the total to 16 probable and one suspect case.
School-based COVID-19 vaccine clinics available in June

The Southern Nevada Health District will provide first doses of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine at four schools simultaneously for two days at each location. Second doses will be available at those same schools 21 days later. The late-afternoon clinics are designed to make it easier for people to take their shot on the way home from work. Stan Fulton COVID-19 Testing site closing, Thursday at noon

Clark County surpasses one million first dose COVID-19 vaccinations

The Health District is also reporting an additional three deaths, bringing the total to 4,483. Current Health District guidelines for schools recommend that all students and personnel wear masks during high levels of community transmission. The Health District’s recommendations were made in response to increasing case counts and the COVID-19 positivity rate in Clark County. Per State of Nevada Emergency Directive 045, Nevada’s statewide face-covering requirements are based on the recommendations issued by the CDC.

Fentanyl deaths increase in Clark County
Cory Burgess2021-08-17T08:52:03-07:00During a 24-hour period on August 12, 2021, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department reported five suspected fentanyl-related overdose deaths occurred in Clark County, and the Southern Nevada Health District is alerting the public about the ongoing risk in the community. Between January and May, there were 92 deaths among Clark County residents, a 39 percent increase over the same period in 2020 with 66 deaths. In 2020, there were a total of 193 fentanyl deaths; 72 deaths were reported in 2019.

Recently, there has been increased interest in a drug called ivermectin. Ivermectin is a drug used in the United States to treat or prevent parasites in animals and for specific uses in humans. The doses and forms for humans and animals are different. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has been receiving reports of patients who have been hospitalized after self-medicating with ivermectin intended for horses.

The event provides an opportunity for participants to acknowledge the loss of friends and loved ones to fatal drug overdoses and will include a panel discussion with community members discussing their overdose-related experiences. A naloxone (Narcan®) training will be offered, and attendees will have the opportunity to pick up overdose prevention kits.

The Health District is reminding people that “yes” there are mosquitoes in Southern Nevada, and to protect themselves from mosquito bites when they are outdoors.

This represents 544 cases out of every 100,000 fully vaccinated people. The Health District is reporting a total of 112 deaths that have occurred in fully vaccinated Clark County residents. This represents eight deaths out of every 100,000 fully vaccinated people. By comparison, the case rate is 562 deaths per 100,000 unvaccinated people.

That’s about how much people will pay at the Veggie Buck Truck at the pop-up produce market at the Bonneville Transit Center (BTC). This pilot program is being offered by the Southern Nevada Health District’s Office of Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion in partnership with the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada (RTC), Three Square Food Bank and Vegas Root’s Veggie Buck Truck to increase access to low-cost fresh fruits and vegetables.

Cory Burgess2021-09-17T16:55:55-07:00Today, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration held a meeting to discuss the issue of administering additional doses of COVID-19 vaccines to the general public, and specifically, recommendations related to administering booster doses of the Pfizer vaccine. The FDA advisory committee did vote not to recommend boosters for everyone 16 and older; however, it did recommend a booster for individuals age 65 and older or those who are at a high risk of severe COVID-19 illness. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices will make final recommendations for the use of the vaccine. The Southern Nevada Health District would then begin administering booster doses of the Pfizer vaccine in accordance with CDC guidance.

Health District offering Pfizer COVID-19 booster doses

Booster doses of the Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccine have not been authorized by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and are not currently being administered at vaccination clinics. The FDA and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are both expected to meet later this week. The FDA is meeting to decide authorization of boosters and the CDC will make final recommendations for administering the vaccines. The Health District will begin administering the vaccine in accordance with CDC recommendations once all steps at the federal, state and local levels have been completed.

People age 18 and older who have completed their initial series with the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines six months ago or more after the initial series is complete or adults 18 and older who received the Johnson & Johnson vaccine two months after their first vaccine can get a booster at Health District clinic locations. The booster dose can be the same vaccine originally received or a different vaccine. COVID-19 boosters are safe, effective and free.

The Southern Nevada Health District is reporting seven confirmed hospitalized cases of influenza, and while flu activity in the state is minimal so far, it typically increases in the community around the holidays. During National Influenza Vaccination Week, December 5-11, the Health District is urging everyone to get vaccinated.

Tropicana Ave. will be closed next week, Sunday, Dec. 19 through Thursday, Dec. 23. It will to re-open Sunday, Dec. 26, for its normal operations of five nights a week, Sunday through Thursday, 5:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. The site is located just east of Paradise Road across from UNLV’s Thomas & Mack Center.

The individual who tested positive is a fully vaccinated female in her mid-20s who did not receive a booster dose of the vaccine. The individual traveled out of the country during the incubation period. Upon return, she had symptoms consistent with COVID-19. She is not hospitalized and is isolating. Part of the Health District’s investigation includes identifying contacts of the case and making the appropriate recommendations for testing and quarantine.
Southern Nevada Health District provides fentanyl test strips to the public to help save lives in the community
Cory Burgess2021-12-21T09:10:38-08:00As deaths from overdoses in Clark County have increased by 34 percent in 2020, the Southern Nevada Health District secured resources to distribute fentanyl test strips to the public and provide education and information to community partners so they can distribute them as well. The fentanyl test strips are available through the Health District’s pharmacy located at 280 S. Decatur Blvd. The test strips include easy-to-follow instructions and are similar to reading an at-home pregnancy test. The test strips detect fentanyl and fentanyl analogs. A study conducted by Johns Hopkins and Brown University found that test strips were accurate and easy to use.

As of December 30, there have been 369,414 cases of COVID-19 reported in Clark County, an increase of 3,363 cases over the previous day. The Health District is also reporting the seven-day moving average of 1,306 new positive cases as of December 27. No new deaths were reported.
