LAS VEGAS – The Southern Nevada Health District’s COVID-19 dashboard is updated on a weekly basis beginning today, Wednesday, March 16. The Health District’s weekly update will now include the 7-day average of probable cases and the Risk Metrics section will reflect additional surveillance data based on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) new community level transmission guidelines. The weekly dashboard will continue to include total confirmed cases, MIS-C cases, total hospitalizations and deaths as well as the number of cases reported in the past seven days. Additionally, the Health District’s trends, aggregate reports, maps, breakthrough case, and city reports will be posted weekly.

Risk metrics have been revised to reflect disease severity and COVID-19 impacts on the health care system including community level hospital admissions, percentage of inpatient beds used by COVID patients, and the percentage of emergency department visits due to COVID.

The Health District announced its switch to weekly reporting on March 10, as COVID-19 metrics have continued to steadily decline in Clark County. While COVID-19 remains in the community at lower levels, other disease metrics and trends along with the CDC’s new framework will provide better insight for monitoring the level of disease in Clark County.

The Health District is committed to gathering, analyzing, and reporting local COVID-19 data to assist with and direct the ongoing COVID-19 response. Data are integral for monitoring new trends, identifying emerging variants, implementing layered mitigation strategies, planning ongoing vaccination and testing initiatives, and keeping the public and response partners informed.

COVID-19 Cases

As of March 15, a total of 492,537 confirmed cases of COVID-19 have been reported in Clark County. A total of 7,685 Clark County residents have died from COVID-19. The full report is available at www.snhd.info/covid-cases.

Next week, the Health District’s COVID-19 dashboard will include reinfections in its case counts. Cases counted as reinfections are individuals who test positive more than 90 days after their initial infection.

Trends

On March 11, the 7-day case count moving average was 56.0, which represents a 40.8 percent decrease compared to the 7-day case count moving average of 94.7 reported on March 5.

COVID-19 Pediatric Doses

As of March 14, more than 46,800 children between the ages of 5 and 11 have received their initial COVID-19 vaccine dose in Clark County and more than 36,500 have completed their vaccine series.

The COVID-19 vaccine is the best way to protect children from getting COVID-19. Children may be at lower risk than adults of becoming seriously ill, but it is still possible. The vaccine is safe, effective and free.

The information about variants identified in Clark County reflects a sample of COVID-19 positive tests sequenced. This provides the Health District’s Office of Disease Surveillance and Control with information about variants that are circulating in the community.
