LAS VEGAS — Walk Around Nevada with the Southern Nevada Health District’s latest app. This free, online program helps participants increase physical activity by virtually logging 1,442 miles as they walk around the state. The Walk Around Nevada app is now available for smart phones and can be downloaded through the Apple store for iOS devices or from Google play for Android. For additional information, visit the Get Healthy Clark County website, www.GetHealthyClarkCounty.org.For all Health District apps, visit the Southern Nevada Health District website, SNHD.info/apps

Launched in 2005, Walk Around Nevada encourages participants to increase physical activity as they “virtually” walk around the state logging 1,442 miles in the process. The new app allows participants to track their mileage as they log in the number of steps or miles they’ve completed and a red line marks their tour of the state. Three maps allow participants to see various sites around Nevada and provide information about them. Along the way, tips about staying active, hydrated and stretching are also included. Participants can join as a virtual group with families, friends or co-workers to help stay motivated.

Most adults do not receive the recommended amount of at least 30 minutes of daily physical activity and the new app can be used to track other activities such as biking, sports activities, even yard work – all of which add to participants’ progress towards walking around Nevada and increased activity.

Participants who complete the trek around Nevada will receive recognition on the ’Hall of Fame’ board on the Get Healthy Clark County website.
