FAQs: Back-to-school physicals

Summer 2024

Does your child need a physical, sports physical or well-child check-up for back-to-school? The Southern Nevada Community Health Center (SNCHC) provides these services and invites area residents to beat the back-to-school rush.

When and where are physicals available?
School and sports physicals are available at both SNCHC locations:

  • Southern Nevada Community Health Center, 280 S. Decatur Blvd., Las Vegas, NV 89107: Monday – Thursday, 8 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.
  • Fremont Public Health Center, 2380 E. Fremont St., Las Vegas, NV 89104: Tuesday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.

Are appointments required?
Appointments are encouraged, and same-day appointments may be available. Charges are based on a sliding scale fee schedule.

What are the rules concerning sports physicals?
The Clark County School District and the Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association (NIAA) require all participants joining interscholastic athletics to pass a physical examination by a licensed physician/provider. A complete physical examination is required every 2 years.

What’s included in a physical?
Typically, it includes a physical examination, immunization, vision screening and completion of the required NIAA form.

What do back-to-school well-child checkups entail?
Well-child checkups include a general physical exam, vision screening, vital signs, height, weight, BMI (Body Mass Index) and immunization.
