Southern Nevada Health District Hosts Open House

Southern Nevada Community Health Center expands Behavioral Health Clinic

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
January 14, 2025

LAS VEGAS — Today, the Southern Nevada Health District celebrated the expansion of the Southern Nevada Community Health Center Behavioral Health Clinic at its 280 S. Decatur location. The open house highlighted the Health District’s ongoing commitment to providing comprehensive and integrated care to Southern Nevadans.

“This milestone is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our staff and the support of our partners, who have made this clinic a reality,” said Dr. Fermin Leguen, District Health Officer for the Southern Nevada Health District.  “And today, we reaffirm our commitment to ensuring high-quality, integrated health care services are accessible to everyone in our community.”

The expansion is rooted in the Federally Qualified Health Center model, which emphasizes integrating primary and behavioral health care services in one accessible, supportive environment. The Southern Nevada Community Health Center’s commitment to this model has helped to make services more accessible to people who need them the most. In 2024, the Southern Nevada Community Health Centers served more than 11,000 unduplicated patients, including providing mental health services to over 500 individuals.

“This clinic is about more than just a building—it’s about celebrating our dedication to the health and well-being of our community,” said Randy Smith, CEO of the Southern Nevada Community Health Centers. “From helping patients manage chronic conditions like diabetes to addressing mental health concerns, our program supports the whole person.”

The expanded Behavioral Health Clinic offers a wide range of services, including:

  • Individual, family and couples therapy both in-person and via telehealth.
  • Substance abuse counseling.
  • Psychiatric evaluations and medication management.
  • Support groups for Ryan White patients (coming soon).

Throughout the event, there was an emphasis on the importance of collaboration and accessibility. “With full-time staff here at our Decatur location and services also available at our Fremont Public Health Center, we are making quality care accessible to all, regardless of financial circumstances. We accept a variety of insurances, offer a sliding fee discount schedule, and ensure no patient is turned away due to an inability to pay,” said Smith.

Currently, the clinic serves patients who receive medical services within the Community Health Center, with plans to expand the program’s reach into the broader community. For those with more complex conditions, the clinic collaborates with community partners to ensure patients receive the specialized care they need.

“Community health centers like ours are more than just clinics—they are trusted medical homes for many people,” Dr. Leguen added. “Today’s celebration underscores our commitment to reducing health disparities, increasing equity and making a long-term positive impact on the populations we serve.”
