A Special Event is any temporary public gathering that includes at least one temporary food establishment or food vendor as part of the event. The event has a defined start and stop date and does not exceed 14 calendar days.
A traditional special event is one where the majority of food service is provided by food vendors who obtain their own permitting through SNHD. Individuals must apply for a temporary food establishment permit to participate at a traditional special event unless they are already permitted as an Annual Itinerant or Mobile Vendor.

If the special event has five or more permitted food vendors, an event coordinator permit is required. The event coordinator is responsible for the coordination of food operations and associated support services.

A tasting event is a special event where an entrance fee entitles the patron to food service in conjunction with the event. A tasting event may be a simple wine tasting event, a chili cook-off with all food preparation done at the event, or an epicurean affair where food is prepared in an offsite, permitted kitchen, then transported to the event location and served. An event coordinator permit is required for a tasting event. The “tasting” booths do not have a point of sale, are not required to obtain their own permitting, and are inspected under the event coordinator.

Application for all temporary permits must be made no later than 7 calendar days prior to the event start date or late fees will be assessed. Temporary permits may be denied if not submitted in full with all required documentation at least one business day prior to the event start date.
All temporary permits will be inspected the day of the event and are subject to denial if not operating in conjunction with the SNHD 2023 Food Regulations.
