Health District After Dark

Health District After Dark (HDAD) is semi-annual lecture series offered by the Health District’s Academic Affairs Committee that occurs after standard business hours “aka after dark.” HDAD engages the Southern Nevada community and public health workforce on emerging and timely public health topics. For more information, please email hdad@snhd.org.

Speaker Info: Dr. Jon Wynn-University of Massachusetts, Amherst who is the current Chair and Professor-Department of Sociology. He will be speaking about findings from his co-authored text “The City and the Hospital: The Paradox of Medically Overserved Communities.” Dr. Wynn is also an alumnus of UNLV’s Department of Sociology. Tamera Travis recently published the SNHD Health Equity Status Report. This report focuses on key health indicators in terms of economic stability; economic access and quality; and health care access and quality. The report also outlines social determinants of health (SDOH), and how they relate to Clark County and Healthy People 2030 targets. Healthy People 2030 is a 10-year plan for that identifies public health priorities to help individuals, organizations, and communities across the United States improve health and well-being. Xavier Foster currently serves as the Health Equity Coordinator for the Southern Nevada Health District (SNHD). During the last 13 years, he has developed and applied his skills in grants management, implementation of evidence-based programs, community engagement and most recently establishing the Health Equity program at SHND
