Prescriptions for a Healthy Lifestyle
The Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion Program at the Southern Nevada Health District has created ‘Prescriptions for a Healthy Lifestyle’ to assist health care providers when talking to their patients about healthy lifestyle choices.
These free, pre-printed ‘prescription’ pads list three modifiable behaviors and provide links to programs created by the health district and other organizations. The pads also refer patients to the health district’s Get Healthy website www.gethealthyclarkcounty.org, where they can learn more about physical activity, nutrition, tobacco and other chronic diseases.
To use, simply ‘prescribe’ one or more of the health behaviors listed on the pad to your patients.
- Physical activity: A general recommendation of 30 minutes of physical activity per day for those who are able and a referral to the free Walk Around Nevada Program.
- Nutrition: A general recommendation to eat five or more servings of fruits and vegetables every day and a referral to the free Nutrition ChallengeProgram.
- Tobacco Use: Information on a free tobacco cessation quit line (1-800-QUIT-NOW (1-800-784-8669)) is provided.
