H1N1 Influenza

The Southern Nevada Health District reports the following information for the week ending Saturday, Oct. 24.

Approximately half of the total number of novel 2009 H1N1 influenza cases reported for the week ending Oct. 24 are the result of health district efforts to catch up on investigation and data entry of cases who had onset of illness prior to the past week.

As of the October 20 report, the Southern Nevada Health District’s weekly update reports cumulative 2009 H1N1 influenza case counts since August 31, 2009 to coincide with the national Centers for Disease Control & Prevention and the health district’s epidemiology surveillance programs for the 2009-2010 influenza season.

Clark County 2009 H1N1-related deaths since spring 2009: 18*

The health district is reporting six additional deaths for the week ending October 24. Two of the newly reported deaths occurred earlier in October. The patients were 22-year-old woman with underlying medical conditions, a 28-year-old woman with underlying medical conditions, a 44-year-old man with underlying medical conditions, and a 40-year-old man with no underlying medical conditions. The two additional deaths reported that occurred earlier in October: a 64-year-old woman with underlying medical conditions, and a 50-year-old man. It is unknown if this patient had underlying medical conditions. Currently, there are patients reported hospitalized with severe illness.

As of Saturday, October 24, the health district received 50,000 doses of the 2009 H1N1 influenza vaccine. As of Monday, October 26, the health district administered more than 22,000 doses.

*This number represents Clark County residents only and is cumulative since 2009 H1N1 influenza was identified in the spring. In early June, the health district reported the death of a hospitalized patient who was a resident of another state.
