Health District to offer flu shots on Sept. 20

LAS VEGAS – Flu season is around the corner. The Southern Nevada Health District’s flu vaccine clinics will begin Tuesday, Sept. 20. This season, the Health District will offer the traditional quadrivalent flu shot and the high-dose vaccine recommended for people age 65 and over. The Health District encourages everyone 6-months and older to get flu vaccinations. People who have questions about flu vaccine, have allergies to any of its components, or have had a previous reaction to a flu vaccine should contact their healthcare provider. Anyone with questions regarding which vaccine is right for him or her should also contact their health care provider. Some facilities in the valley are already offering flu vaccines to patrons or patients.
Immunizations are also available at the following Health District locations:
- Main Public Health Center, 280 S. Decatur Blvd.
Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. - East Las Vegas Public Health Center, 560 N. Nellis Blvd., Suite E12, Las Vegas
Monday – Friday, 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. - Mesquite Public Health Center, 830 Hafen Lane, Mesquite
Tuesday and Thursday, 8 a.m. – noon and 1 p.m. – 4 p.m.
The Health District will schedule an immunization clinic in Laughlin. Flu immunizations as well as childhood and adult immunizations will be available.
Flu vaccines are covered under the federal Vaccines for Children (VFC) program. The Health District accepts the following insurance plans: Anthem, Cigna, Culinary Union, Health Plan of Nevada, Nevada Medicaid/Check-Up, Sierra Health and Life, Sierra Health Option, Retiree’s Health Trust, and Teacher’s Health Trust health plans. Immunizations are also available at clinics across the valley.
Flu shots are also recommended for people with certain medical conditions including:
- Asthma
- Neurological and neurodevelopmental
- Chronic lung disease
- Heart disease
- Blood disorders
- Endocrine disorders
- Kidney disorders
- Liver disorders
- Metabolic disorders
- People younger than 19 years of age who are receiving long-term aspirin therapy
- People who are morbidly obese
To help prevent the spread of the virus: avoid close contact with people who are sick, stay home if you’re sick, cover your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze preferably with your sleeve, wash your hands, and avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth.
