FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
July 16, 2020
The Southern Nevada Health District posts daily reports on its website at www.SNHD.info/covid to provide more context to the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on the community. Daily case counts only reflect the number of newly confirmed cases received from a variety of laboratory sources and do not reflect testing dates or symptom onset for cases.
In addition to the increased local transmission we are experiencing in Clark County in recent days, today’s count is again attributed to a marked increase in community testing that has resulted in thousands more electronic lab records being received by the Southern Nevada Public Health Laboratory, including a large number of positive lab results from previous days. With increased testing volume, it can take more time for the laboratories performing tests and the timely reporting of results to the Health District.
The Health District is also emphasizing that anyone who tests positive for COVID-19 receives a notification from the Southern Nevada Health District. People may be contacted by a disease investigator or may receive a text message or email. The information is available in English and Spanish. The automated system has allowed the Health District to ensure people who test positive receive a timely notification and educational information. Additionally, people tested by health care providers other than the Health District should receive an initial notification from that provider. The Health District conducts notifications for patients tested at its sites and community clinics, as well as for disease investigation purposes.
Reports of coronavirus have been increasing in Clark County, and the Health District continues to remind people to take precautions. This includes wearing face coverings in public, practicing social distancing, staying home if you are experiencing symptoms, and washing your hands frequently.
