Clark County surpasses one million first dose COVID-19 vaccinations

Today, the Southern Nevada Health District is reporting more than a million first doses of the COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in Clark County. As of May 25, more than 1,002,047 people have received their first dose of the vaccine at sites throughout the community. Of those vaccinated, 785,182 have been fully vaccinated and more than 1,713,609 doses have been administered.

Stan Fulton COVID-19 Testing site closing, Thursday at noon

The Southern Nevada Health District’s COVID-19 testing site located at UNLV’s Stan Fulton Building will close on Thursday, May 27 at noon. Testing is an important part of the community strategy to stop the spread of COVID-19, and testing options are available throughout the community, including at the Health District’s main location at 280 S. Decatur Blvd, Las Vegas, NV 89107 and the Texas Station through June 21. More information and registration are available at www.snhd.info/covid-testing. School-based COVID-19 vaccine clinics available in June

Beginning Tuesday, June 1, adults and children 12 and older can receive their COVID-19 vaccination at 16 high schools and middle schools across the Las Vegas Valley in an effort to ensure vaccine sites are convenient and accessible throughout the community. The Southern Nevada Health District will provide first doses of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine at four schools simultaneously for two days at each location. Second doses will be available at those same schools 21 days later. The late-afternoon clinics are designed to make it easier for people to take their shot on the way home from work. Registration for appointments is now available at www.snhd.info/covid-vaccine. Walk-ins will be accepted pending clinic capacity.

Southern Nevada Health District COVID-19 Update

As of May 19, 2021, there have been 970,068 COVID-19 doses initiated, 758,057 doses completed, and a total of 1,660,681 COVID-19 vaccines administered in Clark County. Today, the Southern Nevada Health District is also reporting 249,295 cases of COVID-19 in Clark County, an increase of 284 since yesterday, and 4,370 deaths, an increase of four from yesterday. The case counts reported are only one measure of how the community is doing. The COVID-19 positivity test rate is declining, and these trends will be monitored as the community prepares to return to pre-pandemic occupancy guidelines on June 1.

Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine available for 12- to 15-year-olds at Southern Nevada Health District vaccine sites

On Monday, May 10, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration expanded the Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) for Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine to include adolescents 12-15 years of age. Today, the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) met to make final recommendations for the use of the vaccine for adolescents in this age group. Based on the final recommendations of the ACIP, the Southern Nevada Health District will begin administering Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine to children ages 12 and older at Health District sites. B.1.617.2 variant detected in Clark County

The Southern Nevada Health District has identified the first known case of the B.1.617.2 variant in Clark County. The B.1.617.2 variant was first identified in India and is considered a variant of concern. The variant was detected locally in a sample tested by the Southern Nevada Public Health Laboratory. The public health laboratory conducts sequencing as part of ongoing surveillance efforts to detect variants that may be circulating in Clark County.

New Drive-Through COVID-19 Vaccine Site to Open at Texas Station

Southern Nevada Health District and Clark County officials offered a preview of the valley’s newest drive-through COVID-19 clinic located at the Texas Station Hotel & Casino. The vaccination site fully opens to the public on Tuesday at 7 a.m. and will also offer COVID-19 testing services. The site will off the Pfizer and Janssen vaccines.

First large-scale drive-through COVID-19 vaccine clinic opens at the Las Vegas Convention Center Tuesday, May 4

Southern Nevada’s first large-scale drive-through COVID-19 vaccine clinic will open tomorrow at the Las Vegas Convention Center. The drive-through will operate Tuesdays through Saturdays, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. with the capacity to administer more than a thousand vaccines each day. First and second doses of the vaccine will be available through the drive-through. Appointments for people 16 years of age and older are available at www.snhd.info/covid-vaccine.

COVID-19 Update

As of April 15, 2021, there have been 786,066 COVID-19 doses initiated, 504,475 doses completed, and a total of 1,239,701 COVID-19 vaccines administered in Clark County. This Tuesday, April 13, a record number of vaccines were administered at both the Las Vegas Convention Center and Cashman Center clinics. More than 7,700 vaccines were given at Cashman Center, and more than 6,000 at the Convention Center location. This has been a tremendous undertaking, and it is due to the hard work of staff, partners, and the public’s commitment to their health and the health of the community that so many are already fully vaccinated.

Southern Nevada Health District Statement on Janssen (Johnson & Johnson) COVID-19 Vaccine

Today the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and FDA recommended a pause in the use of the Janssen (Johnson & Johnson) vaccine while they review six reports of cases of a rare type of blood clot that occurred in individuals who received the vaccine. In keeping with the recommendations of the CDC and FDA, the Southern Nevada Health District has stopped administering the vaccine in its clinics and advised its community partners to do the same.

COVID-19 Brazilian (P.1) variant detected Clark County

The first known cases of the Brazilian COVID-19 variant, known as P.1, have been detected in Clark County. The Southern Nevada Health District received notification about one case from the Nevada State Public Health Laboratory (NSPHL) and information about two cases were forwarded from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Southern Nevada Health District COVID-19 Update

Today, the Southern Nevada Health District is reporting 237,737 cases of COVID-19 in Clark County, an increase of 700 since yesterday. After review, 471 of the newly reported cases are attributed to delayed electronic laboratory reports dated prior to February 3, 2021. The Health District is reporting 4,178 deaths, an increase of 9 since yesterday.

Southern Nevada Health District COVID-19 Update

Beginning Tuesday, April 13, extended-hour COVID-19 vaccine appointments will be available at the Las Vegas Convention Center site. The Convention Center site has additional capacity and will allow for more extended-hour appointments to be offered. Five hundred appointments will be available between the hours of 4 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. at the site, Tuesday through Friday. This week, 300 extended-hour appointments were offered at the Southern Nevada Health District’s Decatur location, Wednesday through Friday.

One Million Dose Milestone Reached in Clark County

Southern Nevadans reached a new milestone in their unparalleled response to the COVID-19 pandemic as more than one million doses of vaccine have been given in Clark County. As of April 5, the Southern Nevada Health District, Clark County, University Medical Center, the Nevada National Guard, the local cities, EMS providers, pharmacies and other community partners have initiated 663,905 doses of the vaccine, completed 362,208 doses, and administered a total of 1,026,113 COVID-19 vaccines.

COVID-19 Vaccine eligibility in Nevada opens to people 16 and older, Monday, April 5

Beginning Monday, April 5, everyone in Nevada ages 16 and older will be eligible to get the COVID-19 vaccine. COVID-19 vaccines are safe, effective, and free, and the Southern Nevada Health District is urging everyone who can get vaccinated to make an appointment to do so at one of its sites or a community partner clinic. The UNLV/Stan Fulton testing site closed Easter Sunday, April 4

The COVID-19 testing site at UNLV’s Stan Fulton Building, 801 E. Flamingo Road, will be closed Sunday, April 4 for Easter Sunday. Testing resumes at 8 a.m. Monday, April 5. Testing is available at this site seven days per week from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. Appointments for testing are recommended and can be scheduled through University Medical Center’s website, www.umcsn.com. People who have no internet access can call UMC at (702) 789-5160 to schedule a testing appointment.

Southern Nevada Health District provides updated guidance on vaccine eligibility

LAS VEGAS – In Clark County, occupational groups currently eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine include health care, public safety and security, frontline community support, frontline supply chain and logistics, and food service and hospitality workers. In addition to individuals who are currently employed, people in these groups who were furloughed or laid off and are re-entering the workforce or seeking employment are eligible to be vaccinated. COVID-19 vaccine eligibility in Southern Nevada now includes all transportation workers including air transportation staff, bus and public transit staff, Lyft, taxi, and Uber drivers, as well as grocery store workers, and all retail workers as part of the expansion to the frontline community support and frontline supply chain and logistics groups. The Southern Nevada Health District is urging people that are eligible, which includes everyone in these groups that is 18 years of age and older (Moderna vaccine) or 16 years of age and older (Pfizer vaccine), to register for an appointment to get the vaccine.

Severe weather in other parts of the country has caused delays in shipments of the Southern Nevada Health District’s allocation of Moderna vaccine. As a result, the Health District will be rescheduling second dose appointments for those who were scheduled to receive their second dose of the Moderna vaccine by one week. The Cashman Center COVID-19 vaccination site will begin offering second doses of the vaccine to people who are eligible on Tuesday, February 16. Second doses of the vaccine will be available to people by appointment only. The Southern Nevada Health District is continuing to serve walk-in patients who are eligible to receive their second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine at the Las Vegas Convention Center Second Dose Clinic. Walk-in appointments are available 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. or based on clinic capacity. Those eligible to receive their second dose at this site include patients who received their first dose of Moderna vaccine at a Health District or partner clinic no sooner than 28 days prior as well as those who received their first dose of Pfizer at a Health District or partner clinic no sooner than 21 days prior. COVID-19 Update

The Southern Nevada Health District has notified people who made first dose appointments at the Las Vegas Convention Center Second Dose Clinic that their appointments have been canceled. As a result, they will be able to provide vaccine to second dose walk-in patients for the next four weeks. Walk-in patients who are eligible this week received their first dose of Moderna vaccine between January 4-9, 2021. Patients will be served based on vaccine availability.

Additional cases of the B.1.1.7 coronavirus strain linked to the original case

Five additional cases of the new B.1.1.7 coronavirus strain have been detected in Clark County. These five cases are all close contacts of the first case that was announced on January 25, 2020. These specimens were collected by Southern Nevada Public Health Laboratory (SNPHL) and sent to the Nevada State Public Health Laboratory for sequencing and confirmation.

Clark County and Southern Nevada Health District officials announced that next week’s schedule of operations at the Cashman Center COVID-19 vaccination site in downtown Las Vegas will be Wednesday, Feb. 3 through Sunday, Feb. 7. The site, located in Exhibit Hall B of Cashman Center, 850 N. Las Vegas Blvd., is operating 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Saturday this week. Appointment-only, first-dose COVID-19 vaccinations are being offered based on available supplies to people age 70 and older, and other individuals currently eligible to receive the vaccine in the health care workforce, public safety and security, and frontline community support groups. New COVID-19 strain B.1.1.7 detected in Clark County

The first known case of the new B.1.1.7 coronavirus strain in Nevada has been detected in a sample that was initially tested in the Southern Nevada Public Health Laboratory (SNPHL). The specimen was collected during routine community collection activities and tested by the SNPHL to determine if it was positive for the virus that causes COVID-19. During testing, it was discovered the specimen was showing characteristics of the variant. It was then sent the Nevada State Public Health Laboratory for sequencing and confirmation.

Clark County, the Southern Nevada Health District, local cities, the Nevada National Guard, UNLV and other community partners are rapidly expanding efforts to offer COVID-19 vaccinations to prioritized populations of the public based on available vaccine supplies and U.S. Center for Disease Control recommendations and updated state guidelines. Health care and public safety workers continue to be prioritized at local vaccination sites. Clinic appointments are now available for people age 70 and older. Currently, a limited number of appointments are available on the Health District’s website. More dates and times are being added to the calendar to book a limited number of appointment time slots.

The Southern Nevada Health District will institute changes to operations in compliance with the recent directives announced Sunday by Governor Steve Sisolak. These changes will be in place for three weeks and will limit capacity at Health District public health centers. Southern Nevada Health District COVID-19 Update – Large Events Planning

LAS VEGAS – The Health District has developed a set of parameters for making its recommendations for the approval of large events in Clark County that is available on its website. Today, public health indicators are trending toward surveillance capacity because the 7-day average number of new cases is 569. The Health District recommends that events with less than 1,000 attendees can move forward for possible approval by the appropriate state agency with the caveat that these events could be postponed or canceled if conditions deteriorate. Under this condition, the Health District does not recommend approval for events of more than 1,000 attendees until three consecutive days of all parameters are found to be in green, not trending toward surveillance capacity or yellow, trending toward surveillance capacity. Large gathering plans are ultimately approved by the Division of Industrial Relations, after review by the Health District and other local jurisdictions.

Today, the Southern Nevada Health District is reporting 1,032 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the total number of cases in Clark County to 86,673. The Health District is also reporting a total of 1,564 COVID-19 deaths, an increase of 17. The number of deaths reported today includes 17 deaths that were previously reported to the state but had not yet been submitted to the Health District, and therefore not included in our local COVID-19 reports. Health District and City of Henderson team up for drive-up flu vaccine clinic

LAS VEGAS – The Southern Nevada Health District and the City of Henderson are teaming up to host an appointment-based, no-cost, drive-up flu vaccine clinic at the Fiesta Henderson Hotel and Casino parking garage. Registration is available at www.bit.ly/oct6flu. Drive-up and walk-up clients without appointments will be accommodated if vaccine supplies allow. The drive-up clinic will offer 400 doses of vaccine for adults.

Neighborhood COVID-19 Test Sites Available Beginning Sept. 24

Additional community-based COVID-19 testing sites are scheduled to open in the city of Las Vegas beginning Thursday Sept. 24. The hours for these new locations will be 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. with the first site at Clark High School, 4291 Pennwood Ave., open Sept. 24-25. The testing will be at the school’s auxiliary gymnasium off Sirius Avenue. In addition, a site at Western High School, 4601 W. Bonanza Road, is scheduled to be open Oct. 8-9, and a site at Cimarron-Memorial High School, 2301 N. Tenaya Way, is scheduled for Oct. 15-16

Southern Nevada Health District reports two additional confirmed case of Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in children associated with COVID-19

LAS VEGAS – The Southern Nevada Health District is reporting two additional cases of multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C) in Clark County. Both patients tested positive for COVID-19 and required hospitalization but have been discharged and are recovering. The Health District reported the first confirmed case of MIS-C associated with COVID-19 in a child on June 12.

Public Health Update: Health District declares end to Hepatitis A Outbreak

The Health District first reported the hepatitis A outbreak in June 2019. Nevada was one of more than 30 states that experienced an outbreak of hepatitis A associated with person-to-person transmission since 2016. Through case investigation and contact tracing, it was determined the first case associated with the outbreak in Clark County developed symptoms in November 2018. Over the course of the outbreak, there were 107 outbreak-related cases, 94 hospitalizations, and one death.

The Southern Nevada Health District recommends that people wear cloth face coverings in public, even more importantly in environments where social distancing is not always possible. As businesses are reopening, the Health District has issued guidance and recommendations that employees should wear non-hospital grade, cloth face coverings to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Everyone working is encouraged to wear a cloth face covering to protect customers when maintaining 6 feet of separation isn’t possible.
